  • Dr Thea Bowler is an obstetrician and gynaecologist with expertise in laparoscopic gynaecology and pelvic pain. She is thoroughly passionate about all aspects of women’s health across the lifespan. Thea studied medicine at the University of Queensland. She completed her specialist training in Queensland and New South Wales and was fortunate to undertake an AGES laparoscopic fellowship with some of Brisbane’s leading laparoscopic gynaecologists. This has given her expertise in the management of many gynaecologic conditions via laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery as well as in-depth experience in caring for patients with endometriosis and complex pelvic pain. Thea is devoted to providing complete multidisciplinary care for patients suffering from pelvic pain and is experienced in providing pelvic floor botox injections for the management of pelvic floor spasm. Thea was involved in helping to establish Queensland’s first multidisciplinary persistent pelvic pain clinic at the Mater Hospital. She is Chair of the Queensland Pelvic Pain Network (QPPN) and is currently studying a course in Better Pain Management through the Australian Faculty of Pain Medicine. Thea has extensive experience in all aspects of general gynaecology including management of menstrual abnormalities, PCOS, ovarian cysts, hysterectomy, contraception advice and cervical screening abnormalities. Dr Bowler has published several academic articles, including most recently, a guideline on the management of pelvic pain flares. She has written chapters for a seminal Australian textbook in Obstetrics and Gynaecology and continues to be involved in research and medical education. As a mother of three young children, Thea understands a woman’s fertility journey from pre-conception to birth as well as the importance of having a close and nurturing relationship with a supportive obstetrician. It is a source of continual delight and privilege to be involved in helping patients bring new family members into the world. Through her obstetric career in predominantly tertiary hospitals, Thea has experience in managing high risk pregnancies and is happy to individualise care according to a couple’s wishes. Thea enjoys forming lasting relationships with her patients that see them through many pregnancies and into the years beyond.
