Nathan's first encounter with the eye care profession was during Year 10 work experience at high school. This took place under the supervision of Stephen Langshaw at the Gymea practice of Shire Optometrists. He went on to complete his Bachelor of Optometry with Honours Class 1 and the University Medal at the University of New South Wales (UNSW).
An interest in managing eye disease saw him return to UNSW to complete a Graduate Certificate in Ocular Therapeutics. This allows him to treat patients with prescription medication for conditions ranging from sore and red eyes to glaucoma.
He is currently involved in the education of future optometrists in his position of Clinical Supervisor at UNSW. He oversees optometry students examine the eyes of patients in the final years of their degree at the university clinic.
