Welcome to our Practice.

Faulkner Street Medical Practice has eight General Practitioners and also offers the Specialist services of Dr S O’Mara, Dr Karu and Dr Nanda. All patient consultations and medical records are kept strictly confidential. Faulkner Street Medical Practice is an accredited training practice under GP Synergy, and the Practice welcomes GP Registrars from the program each year. These Registrars are fully qualified doctors gaining experience in rural general practice.


  • Dr Bruce Menzies - Faulkner Street Medical Practice

    Dr Bruce Menzies MBBS, Dip.RCOG, MRCGP, DCH graduated from the University of London in 1977 and qualified as a member of the Royal College of General Practitioners in 1984. He has extensive medical training having worked in Canada, the West Indies and the UK before moving to Australia in 1989 with his family and joining the Faulkner Street Medical Practice. He was the founding Chairman of the New England Division of General Practice in 1993. Among his achievements with this organisation were to set up the New England Immunisation Register and the New England Diabetes Register. He was made Australia Day Armidale Citizen of the year in 2005 and was awarded the Rotary International Paul Harris Fellowship in 2007 both for services to medicine and for services to the community. In 2010 he was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia for services as a General Practitioner and to the arts in the Armidale region. He has a broad interest in General Practice including a special focus on the management of diabetes

  • Dr David Ford (Registrar) Faulkner Street Medical Practice

    Dr David Ford, MBBS completed post-graduate Medicine at the University of Sydney in 2010 after undertaking a degree in Agricultural Science. Worked as a resident at RPA hospital as port of his early training. David and his wife moved to Armidale in February 2013, he is currently training as a GP registrar and working to obtain his FRACGP qualification. In addition to his work at FSMP David also teaches medical students at the University of New England. His interests include paediatrics, sexual health and aged care medicine.

  • Dr Elizabeth Niven Faulkner Street Medical Practice

    Dr Elizabeth Niven MBBS, FRACGP graduated from the University of NSW in 1972. Late that year she arrived in Armidale and has practised continuously here since that time. Elizabeth began her General Practice training at Faulkner Street Medical Practice between 1973 and 1980 while her children were small, and then operated her own practice in Jessie Street until December 2012. In January 2013 Elizabeth returned to Faulkner Street to work on a part time basis.

  • Dr Martin Danke - Faulkner Street Medical Practice

    Dr Martin Danke MBBS, General Surgeon, Prehospital Emergency Medicine (Germany) FRACGP, Diploma and Certificate of Skin Cancer Medicine (Australia) graduated from Frankfurt University in 1991. Surgical training in Germany and UK. Recognition as a specialist of General Surgery, further specialisation in Trauma Surgery and Emergency Medicine. Diagnosing, treating and operating a wide range of abdominal, oncological, endocrinological, vascular and orthopaedic cases. Basic training in Plastic and Hand Surgery as well as neurosurgical and thoracic procedures. Emergency / ICU training with retrieval of patients suffering life threatening illness or injury / Surgical Sonography. After following his Australian wife to NSW in 2003, training and recognition as specialist of General Practice, as well as qualification with the Australasian College of Skin Cancer Medicine / Advanced Cardiac Life Support / Emergency Management / Remote X-Ray operator licence, emergency and routine cases in a number of rural and regional hospitals. Interests include skin cancer, Injury management, musculo-sceletal complaints, diabetes and vascular medicine.

  • Dr Nick Martin - Faulkner Street Medical Practice

    Doctor at Faulkner Street Medical Practice

    Dr Nick Martin, MBBS graduated from St George’s Hospital Medical School London in 1998. He spent the next sixteen years as a Royal Navy Medical Officer, service in a variety of locations around the world including; time in submarines, Afghanistan, the Balkans, Baltic and the Persian Gulf. He qualified as a GP in 2006. In late 2011, he moved to Armidale with his Australian wife and their five children. He is currently working towards his FRACGP. His special interests include men’s heath, sports and exercise medicine and mental health.

  • Dr Padma Nanayakkara - Faulkner Street Medical Practice

    Doctor at Faulkner Street Medical Practice

    Dr Padma Nanayakkara MBBS, FRACGP, DCH graduated from University of Columbo in 1980 and worked in the Royal Canberra Hospital and Woden Valley Hospital in Canberra until moving to Armidale in 1986. She then worked as a Career medical Officer at the Armidale and New England Hospital for several years until going into Practice in 1990. She has post graduate qualification in Family Medicine, Family Planning and Womens Health and is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of General Practitioners. She has a special interest in paediatrics, family planning, sexual health and women’s health including menopause.

    Dr Payal Igoor Chandrashekar MBBS, FRACGP graduated from JN Medical college in India in 2002. Since her graduation she has been in the United Kingdom, training in Internal Medicine in Northern Ireland and GP training in Dundee, Scotland. Dr Igoor has been practising as a qualified GP since 2010. She moved to Melbourne in August 2011 and worked at Hoppers Crossing Medical Centre before moving to Armidale with her husband and daughter in October 2013. Her interests are chronic disease, woman’s health and mental health.
