Dr Paul Conaghan is a true generalist, with skills spanning all aspects of obstetrics, fertility and gynaecology, and a particular interest in complex obstetrics. He has worked in a wide variety of locations throughout Queensland, both rural and metropolitan. He developed a particular interest in complex obstetrics after working in tertiary hospitals for the majority of the last decade. Specialist training in laparoscopy and pelvic floor surgery further support his interest in this area. Dr Conaghan is a Staff Specialist Obstetrician at Mater Mothers’ Hospital, where he performs all his deliveries. Dr Conaghan is an active member of the medical education community. He is an examiner for the College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, and co-ordinates registrar education at Mater Mothers’ Hospital. Dr Conaghan also develops training resources for RANZCOG in the fields of Advanced Obstetrics and Advanced Gynaecology, and is a regular presenter at a number of education events across Queensland. Dr Jacobson graduated from Cambridge University and Guy’s Hospital, London University. He then completed extensive specialist training in the UK, including a Fertility Fellowship at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford and a two year Fellowship in keyhole gynaecological surgery at St Bartholomew’s and the Royal London Hospitals. After completing his training in the UK, he spent a number of years practising in New Zealand before moving to Brisbane in 2010. He is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Queensland and an elected Councillor to the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (RANZCOG) where he serves on a number of national committees. He convenes and oversees the RANZCOG Part 2 membership exam which is a critical component of the assessment of all obstetricians and gynaecologists in Australia and New Zealand. His research on endometriosis, pelvic pain, infertility, and laparoscopic surgery has been published in peer reviewed journals and presented at international conferences. He has been awarded the Cutler’s Company Surgical Fellowship and several other prizes and awards for his laparoscopic surgery research, and has undertaken travelling fellowships to the USA, Germany, and Austria. He teaches other doctors on a range of courses including anatomy, surgery and evidence based medicine. Dr Jacobson has a specific interest and experience in the management of endometriosis, pelvic pain, fibroids, infertility, menstrual disorders and complications of early pregnancy. He is a very experienced laparoscopic surgeon providing a wide range of procedures including treatment of endometriosis, total laparoscopic hysterectomy, laparoscopic treatment of ovarian cysts and robotic surgery. Dr Jacobson offers experienced fertility treatment including IVF. He operates at The Wesley Hospital, Mater Private Hospital Brisbane, Spring Hill Day Surgery and St Andrew’s War Memorial Hospital. Dr Thea Bowler is an obstetrician and gynaecologist with expertise in laparoscopic gynaecology and pelvic pain. She is thoroughly passionate about all aspects of women’s health across the lifespan. Thea studied medicine at the University of Queensland. She completed her specialist training in Queensland and New South Wales and was fortunate to undertake an AGES laparoscopic fellowship with some of Brisbane’s leading laparoscopic gynaecologists. This has given her expertise in the management of many gynaecologic conditions via laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery as well as in-depth experience in caring for patients with endometriosis and complex pelvic pain. Thea is devoted to providing complete multidisciplinary care for patients suffering from pelvic pain and is experienced in providing pelvic floor botox injections for the management of pelvic floor spasm. Thea was involved in helping to establish Queensland’s first multidisciplinary persistent pelvic pain clinic at the Mater Hospital. She is Chair of the Queensland Pelvic Pain Network (QPPN) and is currently studying a course in Better Pain Management through the Australian Faculty of Pain Medicine. Thea has extensive experience in all aspects of general gynaecology including management of menstrual abnormalities, PCOS, ovarian cysts, hysterectomy, contraception advice and cervical screening abnormalities. Dr Bowler has published several academic articles, including most recently, a guideline on the management of pelvic pain flares. She has written chapters for a seminal Australian textbook in Obstetrics and Gynaecology and continues to be involved in research and medical education.
