Our Specialist Travel Doctors will prepare & educate you for a safe and healthy journey.

Travelling overseas soon? For leisure or work and no matter where you're heading, trust our experts to give you specialised advise for your next journey. Our team of travel doctors brings you decades of collective experience, and is Australian and internationally recognised. Our award winning service is recommended by GPs and travel agents across Adelaide and regional SA. Our travel doctors are extensively travelled professionals who know their destinations and closely monitor disease outbreaks throughout the world. Our purpose is to prepare and educate you for a safe and healthy journey abroad. It is well documented that between 30% and 50% of travellers will get sick during a two week stay overseas, with many health issues being destination specific. While many of these concerns are just a nuisance with the potential to spoil your trip, some can be very serious. Some health problems can be avoided through immunisation prior to travel, whereas others can be prevented by adopting avoidance measures gained through education. Travellers may be at greater risk due to pre-existing medical conditions. Good preparation is therefore the key to healthy travel.

Travel Medicine Doctor at Globe Medical - Travel Medicine

Doctor Bob Kass is Medical Director of Globe Medical. He holds specialist qualifications in paediatrics and public health medicine and is one of Australia’s pioneers in the discipline of travel medicine. After working overseas for a number of years, he returned to Australia in 1989 and took the role of General Manager and National Medical Director of the Travellers Medical & Vaccination Centre. Over a twelve year period he grew the organisation from just two to more than twenty-three centres throughout Australia and internationally. He was Chief Executive Officer of Travel Doctor TMVC Pty Ltd for eight years. He also served on the board of the International Society for Travel Medicine (ISTM) for three years. In 2005 he established Globe Medical; a diverse medical centre providing primary care services for international students and inner city workers as well as outbound travellers. Globe Medical is internationally recognised for excellence in the practice of travel medicine. He believes it is important for doctors to maintain general medical skills while still looking after international travellers. Bob has vast international experience, having worked overseas in public health, paediatrics and tropical medicine. “Personal experience in travel” is fundamental for the practice of travel medicine. His work has taken him to Western Samoa, Papua New Guinea, United Kingdom, Tonga, Tokelau, Uganda, India, Nepal and Burma. In recent years he has experienced a number of extreme treks including Kokoda, Mt Kilimanjaro and Mt Kinabalu. Bob’s extensive and diverse international experiences allow him to offer rich and invaluable insights at health briefings. These are given to employees and their families being placed in medium to high risk overseas locations. He is also Medical Advisor to a number of volunteer groups including the Australian Youth Ambassadors for Development (AYAD), Australian Volunteers for International Development (AVID), Australian Business Volunteers (ABV) and Engineers without Borders (EWB).

Travel Medicine Doctor at Globe Medical - Travel Medicine

Doctor Chris Rook is a Fellow of the Royal College of General Practitioners. After completing a medically-related Science degree, Chris went on to study medicine and undertook his internships in the United Kingdom. He completed rotations in Psychiatry, Rehabilitation medicine, Paediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynaecology and Dermatology, before moving into General Practice. Chris has particular interests in skin health, student health and holistic and evidence-based medicine. He qualified as a Doctor in London and then went on to complete his General Practice training in Oxford, where he spent many years as a General Practitioner. Oxford is a thriving international community and provided invaluable experience in dealing with a wide variety of health problems. While in Oxford he pioneered (with a colleague) a web-based database to link local non-principal General Practitioners with employment opportunities and meetings for teaching sessions. Dealing with so many international travellers, the lure of Australia proved irresistible and he moved initially to Mount Gambier to a teaching General Practice clinic. Impressed with the warmer climate and multi-cultural vibrancy of the Australian community, he decided to settle here in Adelaide.
