Dr Brendan Gunalingam is an experienced Interventional Cardiologist with over 18 years experience in complex coronary interventional procedures, along with experience in structural heart interventions and certain peripheral interventions. He is also an International Proctor for LAA occlusion with the ‘Watchman’ device. Techniques that he specialises in include: -Diagnostic Coronary Angiography and Right Heart Catheterisation -Coronary Angioplasty and Stent procedures -Rotational Atherectomy -FFR and IVUS assessment of coronary vasculature -Chronic Total Occlusion revascularisation -ASD and PFO closure -Left Atrial Appendage closure procedures and valvuloplasties. Our outpatient facilities provide exercise and Dobutamine stress echocardiography, resting echocardiography, ECG and holter monitoring, ambulatory blood pressure monitoring and head up tilt testing. Inpatient care is provided at the St Vincent's Northside Hospital which adjoins our rooms and provides the full array of cardiac nursing care, coronary angiography and angioplasty, interventions for structural heart disease including balloon valvuloplasty and septal defect closure, electrophysiology and pacing, automatic defibrillator implantation and trans-oesophageal echocardiography and cardioversion. Patient’s can also been seen at St Andrews War Memorial Hospital. We are also strongly associated with the hospital’s cardiac surgeons and the intensive care unit. I welcome referrals for all cardiac conditions and have a special interest in the management of chest pain, chest pain in women, inflammatory conditions of the heart and cardio-oncology. I am the Head of Cardiac Imaging at Peninsula Health and one of only a few cardiologists with formal training in all cardiac imaging modalities (Echocardiography, CT, MRI, and Nuclear cardiology). I am passionate about the appropriate use of cardiac imaging and was invited to address the US Congress on “Appropriate Use Criteria in Cardiac Imaging” in 2014. I am actively involved in research, teaching and examining for the RACP physician exams and Monash University medical school. I hold an adjunct appointment at Monash University.
