4D Skin Clinic was established by Newcastle doctors as a commitment to provide the best skin cancer diagnosis and treatment to all members of the community. We provide a comprehensive skin service focused on skin cancer management, treating and rejuvenating sun damaged skin and providing minimally invasive cosmetic procedures.
We welcome GP referrals, we work closely with our patients’ GPs and encourage team care arrangements.
Patients can also attend without a referral. We offer priority appointments for urgent concerns.

Our state of the art BBL laser equipment enables us to offer treatments that benefit the health of your skin and provide cosmetic benefits. All patients who have had a full skin check at 4D Skin Clinic within the past 3 months are eligible for a complimentary skin consultation with one of our trained cosmetic nurses to discuss all of your skincare, BBL laser and injectable needs.
Our clinic is easy to find and access and there is ample car parking. We are located on the 1st floor and lift access is provided. We also provide ground floor facilities
Dr Anna Benes graduated from the University of Auckland with a Bachelor of Human Biology, Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery in 1993. After her medical registration in Australia in 1996, she spent six years in the public hospital system. She has worked overseas in New Zealand and UK. Dr Benes is a dedicated skin cancer practitioner since 2002 and holds a Diploma of Skin Cancer Medicine (University of Queensland), International Dermoscopy Masterclass Certificate (Skin Cancer College Australasia) and is a member of the Skin Cancer College of Australasia.
Dr Gabi Bailey grew up in Moree in Northern NSW and moved to Newcastle to study medicine. Gabi graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine in 2016. After a few years working in various Hunter New England hospitals she went on to specialise in general practice, achieving fellowship with the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners. Dr Bailey has always had a keen interest in skin cancer medicine, and has completed a Professional Certificate of Dermoscopy.
Gabi lives in the Lake Macquarie area with her young family, border collie Sam and two cats Wendell and Mia.
Michael Davis is a local doctor, growing up in Lake Macquarie and attending school at Morisset. He went on to graduate in Medicine through Newcastle University with distinction in 2011 and became a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners in 2016.
He’s had a long interest in skin cancer medicine and this has been a regular part of his clinical practice for the last 4 years. He has recently undertaken advanced training in skin cancer diagnosis and surgery, through the Skin Cancer College of Australasia’s Accreditation program.
He is warm, approachable and willing to take the time to answer your questions about skin cancer generally, and the particular details of your care.
He lives with his wife and young son in west Lake Macquarie. Outside of work you will generally find him chasing his son and dog around at Speers Point Park.
Born and raised in Charlestown he started his working life at BHP as a metallurgist before the shutdown led him to revaluate his future. Medicine had always been a passion and he went back to study at the University of Newcastle graduating it 2007.
Completing junior medical training throughout the Hunter Area Health Service he went on to complete his General Practice training in 2011.
Ben worked initially in General Practice and as an Assistant Surgeon before transitioning across into Skin Cancer medicine. He has been full time in the field since 2017 and continues to assist in neurosurgery one day a week.
Dr Clara Jimenez Balcells graduated from the University of Barcelona in 2001. Dr Balcells holds the MRCP (UK) and the MRCGP (UK), FRACGP, the Diploma of Practical Dermatology (University of Cardiff, UK). She has also completed the Masters Degree in Skin Cancer Medicine (University of Queensland) as well as her Fellowship with the Skin Cancer College of Australasia.
Dr Balcells holds an appointment as a Senior Lecturer at the University of Queensland and sits on the Skin Cancer College Australasia Standards Committee Board.
Dr Balcells is highly passionate about dermoscopy and primary care setting skin cancer research.n
Dr Barry Venter graduated at the University of Stellenbosch, South Africa in 1987. Dr Venter has been working in general practice, and many years in rural communities have afforded him a unique opportunity to become experienced in advanced care including interventional obstetrics, surgery and managing high risk patients. This has provided a great foundation for the development of Dr Venter’s surgical skills.
Prior to moving to Australia Dr Venter worked in rural South Africa, England and Canada. Since moving to Australia in 2008 Dr Venter has pursued specialised care and focuses on skin cancer medicine and surgery. Dr Venter has practiced at Shoal Bay Medical Centre & Skin Cancer Clinic and Charlestown Medical & Dental Clinic as a GP and skin cancer doctor. Dr Venter has completed a Masters degree in Skin Cancer Medicine through the University of Queensland.
Dr Venter is a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (FRACGP), a member of the Medical College of Canada (LMCC) and a member of the Skin Cancer College of Australasia.
Dr Rainer Heigl graduated from the University of Auckland with a Bachelor of Human Biology, Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery in 1995. After his medical registration in Australia in 1996, he spent five years in the public hospital system. He has worked overseas in New Zealand and UK. Since 2002 Dr Rainer Heigl has been working exclusively in skin cancer surgery. He holds a Masters Degree in Skin Cancer Medicine (University of Queensland), Diploma of Skin Cancer Medicine (Skin Cancer College Australasia). Dr Rainer Heigl is a member of the AMA and Skin Cancer College of Australasia and plays an active role in teaching other doctors.
Dr Rosalind Leitch qualified from London University in 1980. She spent her early training in London doing ENT and reconstruction surgery. She passed her FRCS (Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons) during her training. Emigrating to Australia in 1990 she settled in Port Stephens where she works as a GP surgeon specializing in skin cancer and reconstructive surgery particularly facial and difficult skin cancers. She worked in Newcastle at Hunter Plastic Surgery with the plastic surgeons Drs Nick Moncrief and Gary Avery and then at Newcastle Skin Check.
Dr Leitch has now joined the 4D Skin Cancer and Laser group where she feels she can service the Newcastle community and enjoy the quality, vibrant and educational arena they provide.
Dr Leitch obtained her Masters in Skin Cancer in 2011 and actively teaches other doctors in skin cancer detection and treatment.
Dr Mistry is a fully qualified Plastic Surgeon with extensive experience in both Australia and New Zealand. He is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS).
He has pursued additional subspecialty training in Cosmetic, General Plastics, Burns and Hand Surgery. His main areas of focus are reconstructive procedures (breast reconstruction, breast reduction, post massive weight loss procedures), cosmetic (breast augmentation, tummy tucks), Skin cancer and Hand Surgery.
Dr Mistry moved with his family to Newcastle in early 2015. After completing a busy hand and micro fellowship at John Hunter Hospital he took up Private Practice at the award-winning Hunter Plastic Surgery in 2016. With a passion to utilise his range of skill sets and expertise, he opened his own practice, Dr Mistry Plastic and Cosmetic Surgeon, at the 4D building in North Belmont. From there he has built a partnership with 4D Skin and Laser Clinic to help facilitate total care of your skin needs, whether it be skin cancers, cosmetic lesions or non-surgical facial rejuvenation (anti-wrinkle injections, fillers, laser).
Dr Mistry has been appointed as a VMO Hand, Plastic and Reconstructive surgeon with the Hunter New England Health District. He performs breast reconstruction at the Calvary Mater Hospital; Hand trauma and lower limb reconstruction at John Hunter Hospital and Skin cancer and general plastic procedures at Belmont hospital.
He consults privately at two sites. His main practice is at the state of the art clinic in the 4D Building, North Belmont, which has ample parking and a lift for the convenience of his patients. He also consults at East Maitland at the Medical Suites at Maitland Private Hospital on a Monday afternoon. Dr Mistry operates at several private hospitals (Warners Bay, Charlestown, Lingard, Maitland and Lake Macquarie).
