At the 2008 RDAA Annual General Meeting, Mark was received the prestigious Rural Doctor of the Year Award in recognition of many years of exemplary service to rural medicine.

Mark was born in Melbourne in 1952. He always wanted to be a doctor and finally graduated from the University of Melbourne in 1976 . Postgraduate training occurred between 1976 and 1981 and included the following training posts: Intern year at Repat Heidelberg and PANCH in Preston; GP terms in Traralgon; Obstetrics and Gynae at Royal Hampshire County Hospital in Winchester (UK); ENT at The Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth (UK); Advanced General Practice in St Kilda; General Medicine , A& E and Anaesthetics at Maroondah Hospital in Ringwood.
This training period included marriage to Jane in 1977 and extensive travel through Asia and Europe. In August 1981 The Zagorskis arrived in Mount Beauty and spent the next 2 decades raising their family in this great valley.
Mark has interests in most aspects of rural general practice but in particular he concentrates on anaesthetics, trauma management, back manipulation and more recently acupuncture. He has been Honorary Treasurer of the Rural Doctors Association of Victoria for 14 years and a member of the local hospital board for 15 years. He is a senior instructor with the RACS EMST Course and Chief Medical Officer of The Australian Ski Patrollers Association.
Mark's other interests include Swimming, Cycling, Motorcycling (BMW 1200C), Downhill Skiing and Cross Country Skiing and he has completed 11 Cross country ski marathons (The Kangaroo Hoppet).
