Our optometrists Jo and Dean are passionate about both. Working alongside our expert optical dispensers, we’re devoted to examining the ocular health of your eyes and perfecting your prescription so your vision is bright and clear. We use OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography) in all our adult eye examinations to detect for early signs of macular degeneration, glaucoma and other eye diseases.
Dean has a special interest in children’s vision and his friendly approach makes kids and parents feel at ease and informed about their visual needs for learning.
We also closely follow the impact and treatment of dry eye disease (which often makes your eyes water!). This is a common problem that really impacts clarity and visual comfort. You don’t have to put up with uncomfortable eyes – talk to us about any anterior eye concerns or changes.
Getting your eyes tested should be easy and fun. At WINK we make it our mission to excel at both.
Eye examinations for people 18 years or younger are bulk billed through Medicare.
Owner and optometrist Jo Twaddell is passionate about eyes! Since graduation from QUT in Brisbane in 1993, Jo has worked in Australia, Canada and the UK. She has been supported by the WINK community over the last decade while also tackling things like a post graduate in Ocular Therapeutics, raising three boys and dodging random cars parking in the shop.

Dean became a true eye-guy while writing his thesis in macular degeneration. He loved eyes so much that he went on to study the Doctor of Optometry at the University of Melbourne, which saw him undertake an internship in Canada. He’s since completed further training in behavioral optometry and takes a holistic approach to your vision needs. He loves working in the Elwood village spotting all the canine friends as they pass by WINK.
Janelle is one of our senior optical dispensers/eyewear stylists who’s worked at WINK for 8 years. She collects vintage eyewear and has assisted as an eyewear stylist for magazine shoots. Janelle has also spent time dispensing glasses at outreach programs in the villages of Ghana. Outside of WINK you’ll find her in the ocean or exploring her other favourite hobby: making prosthetic eyes.
Lucy is experienced in all aspects of optics from sales, operations and clinical management and has even spent time abroad in Germany perfecting her skills. A bona fide eyewear collector, Lucy almost owns a different pair of glasses for every day for a month. Now that’s commitment.
