Dr Jason Hockings is an experienced, Victorian trained Orthopaedic Surgeon based in Melbourne. He specialises in conditions affecting the bodies major bones and joints with subspecialist advanced training in elective hip, knee and shoulder surgery as well as general orthopaedic trauma surgery.
Having been awarded a public appointment as an Orthopaedic Surgeon at Eastern Health, Jason will be operating at both Box Hill and Maroondah hospitals. He operates privately at several hospitals including St Vincent’s and Epworth, and consults out of his rooms at Richmond. He is actively involved in ongoing research and development and in teaching and training junior surgeons.
Jason graduated from medical school at the University of Queensland in 2011 and went on to work as a hospital doctor for two years and a non-training orthopaedic doctor for three years before beginning his orthopaedic training. He completed the Victorian Orthopaedic Training Program in 2021.
After accepting a position as a consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at Eastern Health in 2022, Jason then completed a post-training fellowship in the direct anterior approach for total hip arthroplasty and hip arthroscopy with Professor John O’Donnell in Melbourne, widely considered the pioneer of anterior hip replacement surgery in Australia and one of the most senior hip arthroscopists not just in Australia but internationally. He also travelled overseas to attend several observerships with specialist anterior hip surgeons including Dr Frederic Laude and Dr Pascal Vie in France, where the anterior approach was developed.
