Derek brings over 30 years of experience in optometry. After graduating in the UK, he emigrated to Australia, where he ran a successful optometry practice in Tasmania for many years. During this time, he worked with the Royal Guide Dogs Association of Tasmania and contributed to the Vision 2020 committee.
He has attained a Graduate certificate in Ocular Therapeutics from the State University of New York. He has practiced in both Tasmania and New South Wales. He was also an inaugural member of the Optometry Board of Australia, serving for over nine years, and was the President of the Optometry Council of NSW. Since 2020, Derek has provided optometry services to remote communities in the Northern Territory and worked as a locum optometrist across Australia.
Derek is passionate about supporting patients of all ages, from 3 to 93, with their vision needs. In addition to general optometry, he has a particular interest in myopia management for children, as well as in treating dry eye and ocular surface disease in adult populations.
In his spare time you’ll find Derek either running, sailing, exploring through travel, or enjoying good entertainment.
